Sales Tax Responsibilities for Sellers

Who is responsible for sales tax?

At this time, sellers are responsible for collecting, reporting, and paying any applicable sales tax on the items they sell through imayde.

imayde does not currently collect or remit sales tax on behalf of sellers. Because of this, you should incorporate the cost of sales tax into the price of your products. This makes checkout simpler for buyers and ensures you can cover your tax obligations without surprise expenses.

Why is this important?

  • Tax laws vary by state and product type.
  • Some states require sales tax on physical goods, digital products, or even shipping.
  • As the seller of record, you are legally responsible for compliance with these rules.

Keeping detailed records of your transactions (sales price, shipping, and any tax included in your pricing) will help you report accurately at tax time.

Will this change in the future?

Yes — as imayde grows, we may move toward collecting and remitting sales tax on behalf of sellers, similar to how larger marketplaces like Etsy or Amazon operate.

For now, assume that you must handle sales tax yourself and factor it into your product pricing.

What should sellers do now?

  1. Check your state’s sales tax laws and understand your obligations.
  2. Build tax into your product prices so you are covered when you remit.
  3. Keep good records of every sale for accurate reporting.

Remember: Pricing your products to account for sales tax now will save you headaches later.
